Past Performances this Season
by Desert Winds Ensembles
On May 3, the Band performed its Annual Pops Concert 'From Book to Stage', conducted by Artistic Director Dean McDowell. Playing to a near full house, the Band performed medleys from 10 different movie and stage shows. Besides the Symphonic Band, the Flute Choir, Clarinet Choir, Jazz Band and Pop Band performed. After the matinee concert, ice cream was served in the lobby.
On March 28–29, the Desert Winds performed their Spring concert, You Gotta Have Heart, exploring themes of love, empathy, and perseverance through a diverse selection of music, including the California premiere of Michael Markowski’s The Coppersmiths in its second public performance.
The band was joined by Markowski, who spent the week working with students across the Valley. The band also recognized this year’s scholarship recipients, highlighting Desert Winds’ ongoing support of music education in the community.
Desert Winds Jazz Band Concert
and Gala Fund Raiser
On February 15, 2026 the Desert Winds Jazz Band performed it's annual Concert and Gala Fundraiser at the Cascade Lounge in the Agua Caliente Casino in Palm Springs. There was great music, by the Band along with terrific vocal contributions by Estee Graham and Tod Macofsky. The Casino served a terrific brunch and there were many items to bid on in the silent auction including a 'Wall of Wine'. The Band would like to thank our generous patrons for their support at this, the Band's primary fundraiser each year!each year. See some photos from the Gala below.
Desert Winds Chamber Music Concert
On January 11, small ensembles, duets, and soloists from the Desert Winds performed at St. Margaret’s Church in Palm Desert. The concert showcased a wide range of chamber music, with performances by a flute choir, clarinet choir, saxophone quartet, woodwind quintet, trombone quartet, and other ensembles.

Desert Winds Holiday Concert
On December 10 the Desert Winds performed a free concert of Holiday music on the plaza between the Rowan Hotel and Starbucks in downtown Palm Springs. Besides the Concert Band, the Flute Choir and our new Pop Band performed from dusk to dark to a large audience among the bright Holiday decorations and a gorgeous mountain backdrop.

Festival of Lights Parade
On December 6, the Desert Winds Pop Band showcased their talents at the dazzling
Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade. The vibrant decorations and illuminating lights on their float and Tesla tow truck were eclipsed only by the enchanting music they performed. We look forward to this being just the first of many appearances for the Band in this festive parade.

2025 Palm Springs Pride Parade
The Desert Winds secured the 4th position among 200 entries in this year's Palm Springs Pride Parade. It was a stunning, sunlit day, with an estimated 100,000 spectators filling the sidewalks along the parade route. The Desert Winds delivered a lively performance of 'Pink Pony Club' by Chappelle Roan.
At PS Pride, we frequently welcome musicians and colorguard members from other bands who wish to join us. This year, including our members and guests, we proudly had participants from 34 cities across California and 6 additional states.
